The Ask.
Engage South Bronx communities in NYCDOT’s Reimagine the Cross Bronx project to improve the quality of life in neighborhoods located along one of the most congested US interstates, which experience some of the worst health issues in NYC.
The Solution.
Turned a study into a collective community-driven effort to develop a vision for reconnecting communities divided by the Cross Bronx Expressway to reduce the negative impact it had on surrounding, mostly underserved and multilingual neighborhoods.
Tactics included:

Interactive pop-up events in non-traditional locations
Virtual workshops and breakouts
Material translation in Spanish, Bengali, French
Live polling
Family activities and storytelling
Social media campaigns
The Outcome.
10 Community Partners were funded to work at a grassroots level to expand the reach into neighborhoods, complementing a Community Working Group and Technical Focus Groups to build a powerful community-driven vision.
