The Ask.
Encourage public participation and gather robust community input on New York’s landmark Climate Action Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA).
The Solution.
Plan, execute and facilitate nine hearings across New York State on the Climate Action Council Draft Scoping Plan.
Tactics included:
Gathering input from over 500 attendees
Organizing a panel of state officials from across agencies
Livestreaming meetings to increase accessibility
Providing interpretation in American Sign Language and other languages
Conducting thoughtful community outreach to ensure peaceful demonstrations
Coordinating media coverage to spread word about hearings
The Outcome.
Hundreds of members of the public, elected officials, environmental activists and labor union activists participated and gave their input on the state’s plans to tackle the effects of climate change.
