ASC's Intersections Newsletter — Week of May 6, 2021
Nora's Note
Find bias in 10 minutes. Answer a few questions and in 10 minutes, find your unconscious bias. That’s what I thought, anyway, when I took a bias quiz at Harvard’s Project Implicit. And then I took the test on different days and at different times and after different experiences—and my results have yet to repeat. But here’s what I learned: points of view change and shift, which means reducing bias is a process, not an event. It requires time as well as intention. Now that I know more about my own biases, I’m looking at how bias finds its way into interactions, starting with NPR’s Codeswitch and Forbes coverage of workplace bias toward Asian Americans during May’s AAPI Heritage Month. We can do this.
