Nora's Note
Last night in Astoria. Sitting in a beer garden, sipping a local IPA and waiting for Julie Tighe, president of the League of Conservation Voters to speak, along with representatives from ASC client, Equinor, Chuck Schumer’s office, Sierra Club, and Climate Jobs New York, I started thinking offshore wind just may get us to the equity we say we want. It’s surely getting New Yorkers to cross borders into communities they’ve never visited, to learn the challenges of people we’ve never met—like the thousands of New Yorkers who struggle to breathe because of fossil fuel plants plunked near their homes—and to create pathways to family-supporting jobs and to opportunities for minority- and women-owned businesses, delivered by agencies and a new crop of NGOs, like the one we founded. Plus, we get renewable energy, clean air, and resiliency the likes of which we’ve never experienced. Get involved NY—this is a sea change we can be proud of.
Transportation
NYC ‘Summer Streets’ initiative will expand to all five boroughs this summer. The “Summer Streets” program will expand to nearly twenty miles of New York City’s streets across all five boroughs this year, more than double the amount of space available in 2022. Automotive travel will be banned on these streets on five Saturdays throughout July and August. The program aims to create more open space for New Yorkers and to encourage residents to bike or walk along the dedicated routes. Climate
DOE’s new tool helps you get your share of the climate law’s billions. The Biden Administration is working to make the clean energy transition more accessible through a new Energy Savings Hub created by the Department of Energy (DOE). The website aims to inform Americans on how clean energy policy can benefit them through energy tax credits and rebates. Individuals can access information on energy audits for homes, energy efficient appliances, DIY tips to lower utility bills, purchasing electric vehicles and more. Read more about how you can take part in the energy transition. (Source: Canary Media)

Economic Development
Lawmakers Push For Expanded Cyber Training, Education. A new bipartisan bill has been introduced in the US Senate that would launch a public-private campaign to encourage cybersecurity best practices within state and local governments, small businesses, and underserved communities. The Cybersecurity Awareness Act would also require the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency to expand outreach to these groups to protect themselves against cyberattacks. The bill comes amid increased attacks targeting these groups, and legislators hope it will help ensure everyone is "playing their part" in preventing network breaches. Read more on proposed upgrades to cybersecurity public outreach. (Source: Route Fifty)
